Daruma

The ‘Daruma’ is a wishing doll based on the appearance and teachings of Bodhidharma, the Japanese founder of the Zen tradition of Buddhism. Ancient texts tell how he once sat down for his daily meditation and remained sitting for nine years. He was so focused on his practice that his arms atrophied and fell to the ground. Though this tale may seem fantastical, the teaching is practical: your willingness to dedicate yourself to a goal will transform you. One may not be able to sit in one place for nine years like Bodhidharma, so this Daruma fits in your hand and is meant to be carried with you on all your travels. www.wishingdoll.com
