Schüco BAU 2023 Exhibits
The key to displaying complex physical products at a fair is to allow them to stand on their own beyond the clutter of the rest of the fair. Schüco’s products are supported by highly engineered mechanics and include a variety of accessories that are designed into each exhibit. The façade products are conceived as part of an actual building with programmatic and climatic criteria, and even the design and context of a basic window is carefully considered. The composition of the exhibits and material choices for the profiles, textiles, and feature materials come together with the overall stand design to create a comfortable environment for guests to experience the entire range of Schüco’s product possibilities.

More about the project…
BAU2023 is the second set of exhibits that Etcetera designed for Schüco. Every two years BAU is a very important moment for Schüco to exhibit their product line and introduce their customers to new products and forthcoming innovations. With more time in the product development process and the experience of the Welcome Forum, we developed a collection of refined exhibits to showcase the quality of Schüco’s products. Once again, there are straight forward products like windows and doors, and some interior systems where the accessories and wall connections need to be carefully detailed. The façade products require a more careful treatment with various materials, details, and selling points. For instance, Facid, a textile façade system brings it’s unique geometric and assembly complexities. The fire rated facades need to be able to show their technical advantages while highlighting how little their safety features impact their design flexibility. The large folding, sliding, and pivoting doors also require their own ultra-minimalist approach to design and detailing to maintain their value of creating large open connected spaces.
This year the showcase systems were the UDC80 (with a Vertiko green wall) unitized facade, the AOC50 timber construction, and the Grid2Shell. The UDC80 system is most valuable for its flexibility and ability to integrate various other components and systems. For BAU we included a green wall and photovoltaic panels. The AOC50 timber construction system is important because of its unique aesthetic in the Schüco catalogue and in the move toward carbon control. The highlight of the stand was clearly the Grid2Shell saddle surface entrance exhibit.
We chose a very simple dark brown (RAL8019) to give a warm feeling to the products. It is a classic, but contemporary color that complimented DART’s color scheme while still highlighting with sharp contrast the quality of production and assembly of the exhibits. We want the total collection of the exhibits to have a feeling of approachability and friendliness not usually associated with technically driven products like facades and windows. And this is a strong driver of our continued collaboration with Schüco.
